Bently Nevada Proximitor Sensor

3 products

The Bently Nevada Proximitor Sensor Series is a highly specialized line of eddy-current proximity sensors, engineered for precise measurement of rotor shaft position and vibration within fluid film bearing clearances. Known for their rugged construction and exceptional reliability, these sensors are designed to perform in demanding environments, providing vital data for machinery condition monitoring and protection in industries such as power generation, oil and gas, and manufacturing.

Key Technology and Functionality

Bently Nevada Proximitor Sensors operate based on eddy-current sensing technology, which allows non-contact measurement of shaft displacement. Each sensor is equipped with an induction coil that generates an electromagnetic field. As the probe tip approaches a conductive surface—typically the rotor shaft of a rotating machine—eddy currents are induced within the surface. These currents generate an opposing electromagnetic field proportional to the gap distance between the probe and the shaft surface. By accurately measuring this opposing field strength, the Proximitor Sensor precisely determines shaft position, which is crucial for assessing equipment health and preventing mechanical failures.

System Configuration

Each Bently Nevada Proximitor Sensor integrates seamlessly into a Proximitor System, which includes the sensor probe, a coaxial extension cable, and a Proximitor signal conditioner module. The signal conditioner is responsible for converting the raw sensor output into a standardized signal that can be fed into monitoring systems, allowing real-time tracking of vibration levels and shaft displacement. This modular system design provides high versatility and is compatible with other Bently Nevada monitoring solutions, ensuring complete coverage for machinery protection.

Benefits of the Bently Nevada Proximitor Sensor Series

  • High Accuracy and Reliability: Proximitor Sensors provide precise measurements of shaft position and vibration, with a typical linear range of 2 mm (80 mils) and a sensitivity of 7.87 V/mm (200 mV/mil). This accuracy is maintained across a temperature range of –35°C to +120°C (–31°F to +248°F), ensuring consistent performance in various operating conditions.

  • Durability and Environmental Resistance: Constructed with robust materials, these sensors are designed to withstand harsh industrial environments, including exposure to high temperatures, humidity, and contaminants. The 3300 XL 8 mm Proximitor Sensor, for example, complies with European CE mark requirements, indicating its resilience and reliability.

  • Ease of Integration and Maintenance: The modular design of the Proximitor Sensor Series allows for straightforward installation and integration into existing monitoring systems. Features such as the SpringLoc terminal strips facilitate faster and more secure field wiring connections, reducing installation time and maintenance requirements.

  • Versatile Application Range: These sensors are suitable for a wide range of rotating machinery applications, including gas and steam turbines, compressors, pumps, and electric motors. Their compatibility with various Bently Nevada monitoring systems, such as the 3300 and 3500 Series, ensures comprehensive machinery protection across diverse industrial sectors.
