Honeywell FC-IO-0002 I/O Extender Module

The I/O Extender Module plays a crucial role in the Safety Manager A.R.T. system, located in slots 20 and 21 of the I/O chassis. This module enables key operations, including the transfer of communication signals, transmission of watchdog signals, distribution of 5V power, and providing status indicators.

Communication and Signal Distribution

• The Control Processor routes communication to the I/O modules, ensuring efficient signal transmission.

• Watchdog signals are distributed from the Control Processor to each I/O module, enabling real-time monitoring and fault detection.

Fault Isolation

• In case of a module failure, the system isolates the affected module by deactivating its Watchdog signal, preventing disruption to the entire system.

Power Distribution

• The Control Processor provides 5V power to the I/O modules, organized into two groups:

  • Group 1: Supplies I/O positions 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17.

  • Group 2: Supplies I/O positions 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18.

Alternatively, power is distributed as:

• Group 1: Positions 1–9.

• Group 2: Positions 10–18.

Status Monitoring

• A status LED on each I/O module provides the operational status:

  • OFF: No issues.

  • GREEN: Normal operation.

  • RED: Fault detected.

Redundancy and Failover

• Each Safety Manager A.R.T. I/O chassis includes two I/O extender modules:

  • Position 20 controls I/O bus 1; in case of failure, Position 21 takes over control of both I/O bus 1 and I/O bus 2.
